For women experiencing menopause it can be a difficult time. Hot flushes manifest as heat all over the body, or at least parts of it and sometimes redness or blotches, along with heavy sweats or cold shivers.
Many women opt for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), which is an effective form of treatment. The hormones being replaces are Oestrogen and Progesterone. The only problem with this treatment is there’s the chance of increased risk of heart disease, breast, ovary and uterine cancer and a stroke.
For women who opt not to take HRT or would like to compliment HRT, acupuncture for menopause treatment could be the answer.
Most women experience accelerated bone loss during the menopause and there’s also an increased risk of heart disease. Women should therefore take supplements where needed for bone health and eat a healthy heart diet rich in grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes – the sort of diet your doctor has been recommending for years!
A study involving over 800 women, aged from 40 to 60, who were all experiencing natural menopause, found that women who had acupuncture treatments experienced a reduction in the number of hot flushes as well as a reduction in the severity of those flushes for up 90 days.
